How to Get the Word Out
Newsletter
Our newsletter is a monthly publication containing articles 200 - 400 words in length. Our newsletter’s goal is to look at our Society from a “Big Picture” perspective and to offer insight into our goals and mission. Our newsletter is not a place to notify people of upcoming events, and will not contain a calendar.
The deadline for submitting articles to the newsletter is the 3rd Monday of each month. Articles may be sent to newsletter@uusociety.org. The newsletter will be published the first week of each month. Any deviations from this schedule will be announced well in advance.
Enews Blast
Our Enews Blast is a weekly publication containing short articles, flyers or links to longer articles. The Enews Blast contains only items directly related to Society sponsored events - it will not contain announcements of outside events. You may submit pictures to be published along with your article. If you do not submit a picture, one will most likely be chosen by the editor to accompany your article.
To eliminate repeat articles in the Enews Blast, you will be allowed one article per event. Any other repeats will be published in the “Mark Your Calendar” section of the Enews Blast with a link to your article.
The deadline for submitting items to the Enews Blast is every Thursday at noon. You may submit items for the Enews Blast by sending them to Enewsblast@uusociety.org. Any deviation from this schedule will be announced well in advance.
Facebook
The Society has a Facebook page at First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington. If you are a member of Facebook please find us and request to become our friend. This is the place for members to share anything that’s on their mind, get the word out about community events (even those not directly sponsored by the Society) and have discussions. This site is really the member’s site, the more you use it, the more interesting it will be. You may also post to this site by emailing to UUSocietyBurlington@groups.facebook.com.
Website
Our website consists of two main sections, the general section that is open to everyone, and the Member’s Only section which is password protected. If you believe that you should have the password to this section of the website and do not already have it, please contact Christina at xina@uusociety.org. If you are a member or friend of the Society, you will be given access to this section.
On the grey sidebar of the website, is an event listing. This is the area which highlights upcoming events at the Society. Each week, items of interest will be added to this list. We have the ability to attach a description, a link to another website or article, or a picture to these entries. If you would like your item added to this section of the website, please write a note on your blue sheet or send me an email at xina@uusociety.org.
The Member’s Only section of our website contains a copy (updated weekly) of our main Society Calendar that has everything currently scheduled at our building on it. Every time you hand in a Blue Sheet to schedule space, your event will go on this calendar.
Announcements
Order of Service Announcements are due Wednesdays at noon for publication in the following Sunday’s Order of Service. Please keep these announcements fairly short (less than 50 words) to keep our paper usage to a minimum. Send Order of Service Announcements to Kathleen at office@uusociety.org.
As another way to save on paper, we are discouraging the use of inserts to the Order of Service. Please consider carefully before submitting an insert. If you decide that an insert is absolutely necessary, it must fit on ½ of an 8 ½ X11" sheet of paper and must arrive to us copy ready. Please note that we will only allow one insert per event. This means that we will not publish your insert for more than one Sunday. Please consider advertising your event in the Enews Blast as an alternative to an insert.
