Planned Giving
In celebration of our 2010 Bicentennial Year and looking forward to our third century, the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington has created the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington Legacy Society to secure a strong and vibrant future for our Society and its historic building and ministry. The Legacy Society recognizes generous people who have been inspired to contribute to our continued progress by increasing the Society’s endowment funds through their bequests and life-income gifts. Membership in the Legacy Society is open to all who make this type of Planned Gift regardless of amount. For more details we invite you to refer to our brochure or contact Janice Lange of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington Planned Giving Committee.
Questions:
- What is a Planned Gift?
Ans: A Planned Gift is a financial gift that goes on giving after your death. - What can a Planned Gift do for our Society?
Ans: A Planned gift will fund continuation of our liberal ministry, religious education, and outreach to the broader community. It will support the upkeep and maintenance of our historic meeting house and lessen the burden on our annual operating budget. For example, a capital needs assessment of our meeting house has identified projects that will cost over $1,000,000 just in the next ten years. - How can I make a Planned Gift?
Ans: Create or amend your will to include a bequest to the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington of either a fixed dollar gift or a percentage of your estate.- Make a memorial gift of cash, appreciated stock, or other assets to the Society’s endowment to honor the memory of a loved one or friend thus supporting our liberal faith.
- Name the First Unitarian Universality Society of Burlington as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement accounts;
- Establish a charitable remainder annuity or set up a charitable remainder trust managed by the national Unitarian Universalist Association, giving you a tax deduction now for your gift , the right to the income earned by the assets for the rest of your life, and ultimately a gift to the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington after your death.
- What is the Legacy Society?
Ans: The Legacy Society has been created by the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington to honor those who have designated our Society as a beneficiary of their Planned Gift. - How do I become a member of the Legacy Society?
Ans: You may become a member of the Legacy Society first by contacting your trusted advisors who might include your lawyer, financial planner and /or family and indicating you wish to leave a Planned Gift to the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington.
